A Renaissance for Banana Republic

If you’ve popped onto Banana Republic’s site recently you may have noticed that the brand got a bit of an upgrade. The site looks a lot sleeker, a little moodier and overall more editorial. From a merchandising and styling perspective there’s a lot more going on as well – everything looks much more elevated – and as I was perusing the site I noticed a step up in fabrications, or rather a new commitment to more sustainable fabric choices like certified natural fibers and recycled synthetic fibers. If BR were a car it just got the equivalent of new leather seats, a full detail and a paint job.

Naturally a few pieces caught my eye and if you saw my stories yesterday, overall I’d say they were winners (I’m still skeptical about the bag…). I love the Loose Jean (and equally love that it comes in petite and I don’t have to get them hemmed) and Barrel Jean (comes in petite as well) as well as the ribbed merino wool knits (that are now on sale!). However I still think they have some room to improve. I would love to see more product with organic cotton and less synthetic blends, and finished edges on leather belts, and better pricing (or better product information) on some of their more luxury leather items. That being said, they’ve definitely improved from where they were and are moving in the right direction.

I took another scroll through the site and picked out some favorites. I don’t think you can really go wrong with their knits and so far I’ve been super impressed with their denim. Enjoy!
