August Mood ’20 – A Minimal Fashion Edit

august fashion edit

Over the past few months I’ve been doing a lot of online “window shopping” {opening tons of tabs, curating wishlists, and organizing all of the things I want to buy, full well knowing that I can’t afford them all or need them all} and this month I’ve been pulling the trigger on a few things so I decided to dedicate this months mood to what’s in my shopping cart.  Outside of working and tending to a few house projects, this month I’ve been diving deeper into the depths of my closet and building a wardrobe that will stand the test of time.   To me, this means filling it with timeless, quality designs that can be worn multiple ways and hold up after several wears and washes.

Here’s what’s on my list:

Tailored Cotton Linen Shorts

A few seasons ago a bought a pair of linen shorts from Cuyana and wish I got them in every other color that they offered.  They became my go-to in the summer when I wanted something less restricting, and perhaps a bit more refined than a pair of denim shorts, but didn’t necessarily want to wear a skirt or dress.  I also love a good tailored look so I decided to order a few pairs from Club Monaco and Equipment.  Both were winners, but I unfortunately had to return the Boyd Short because I was in between sizes.  I’ve also had my eye on these from Closed Official and the Ranger Short from St. Agni and might give those a try in the future.

Faithful the Brand Gianna Dress

I have been stalking this dress ever since I saw it on Modo Operandi and it was sold out.  I found it Verishop and quickly ordered an XS and S.  Sadly, neither of them fit me perfectly.  The Small fit well in the chest, but was far too big in the waist; the XS fit better in the waist, but was too snug across the neckline {le sigh}.  Even though I loved it and could probably have made it work I returned both because I’m doing my best not compromise on fit unless I can alter it to fit perfectly.  Regardless, highly recommend.

White Cotton Midi Dress

If there’s one thing that I will always have in my closet in the summer, it’s a white cotton midi dress {or two, or three}.  No matter how I’m feeling, I can always put one on with a few pieces of gold jewelry and feel put together.  In the past, I’ve avoided buying multiples of these because I “should” be diversifying my wardrobe, but the reality is that I love simple designs that are timeless and I can wear in various situations; even if that’s making pancakes on a Sunday morning.

Vince Satin Slip Skirt

A good slip skirt is becoming one of the staples in my closet.  I ordered a blush one a couple of years ago and have wanted a champagne one ever since.  It elevates a basic tank, but can easily be paired with a silk cami for a more dressy occasion.

Jenni Kayne Cocoon Sweater

I have a bit of a traumatic love affair with Jenni Kayne.   I lust over most of their pieces, but hate the price tag if I’m being honest.  {I still need to do my research on how their products are made and why they cost so much}.  Regardless, I am a big proponent of paying a little bit more for a style that you love rather and will wear forever than paying a little less from something that you just like.  This sweater is one of those items for me.

Denim Shorts

I remember when we went to Bali for our honeymoon and thinking “I really need some denim shorts…” that was two years ago and my denim short situation hasn’t improved much.  I have a couple of pairs of shorts, including these, but have been wanting something with a longer inseam so I decided to pull the trigger and order a couple of styles from AGOLDE {obsessed with their denim} and Re/Done that I had saved on by ShopBop wishlist.

Non-Denim Pants

Last fall I invested in two pairs of wool pants from Vince that often times I wish I had in warm weather friendly fabrics like linen or viscose.  I love jeans, but trousers are my new happy medium between denim and sweats.  It’s pajama pants, but classy.  I scooped up these Cinq-a-Sept pants that I had saved on my ShopBop when they went on sale and I already know they will get great use come fall and winter.
